BSS: Plater wins at Donington

Steve Plater has moved into the lead of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship standings after scoring victory in the third round at Donington Park.

The HM Plant Honda rider only took the lead from Dan Linfoot for the first time on the penultimate lap of the race after pole sitter and long-time leader Hudson Kennaugh hit problems.

The South African had extended his lead to five seconds in just a few laps, but was gradually reeled in by Linfoot, Paul Young and Plater, being overtaken on lap 12 before plummeting to an eventual 15th at the finish.

Linfoot assumed the advantage but found himself under significant pressure from a charging Plater, who eventually grabbed the lead with just over a lap to go and cruise to his first win of the season. Linfoot also lost out to Young, who gave TAG Triumph a superb podium finish in second.

Erstwhile championship leader Billy McConnell finished a distant fourth, ahead of Kawasaki's Ben Wilson, while James Webb, Tom Grant, Kev Coghlan, James Westmoreland and Lee Johnston completed the top ten. Oulton Park winner Dan Cooper was 11th.
