Camier leads another Airwaves 1-2

Airwaves Yamaha prepared for their World Superbike Championship appearance at Donington Park next week in fine style by claiming a 1-2 finish in the second race of the weekend at Snetterton.

Leon Camier led James Ellison to make it eight wins in ten races, a streak that has seen him extend his advantage in the overall standings to 55 points.

Yet again Camier was made to work hard for his victory after getting another tardy getaway from pole position, the Yamaha rider falling to fifth position by the end of the opening lap as Stuart Easton, by contrast, maintained his reputation as a faster starter to take an early lead from Josh Brookes, James Ellison and Chris Walker.

In amongst the leaders from eighth position on the grid, Walker was looking racy in the early stages, bullying his way past Ellison and holding down a provisional podium position for the length of the second lap.

However, the Motorpoint/Henderson Yamaha rider's hopes of making the most of his position ended at the start of lap three when he ran on at the opening bend, the 'Stalker' taking a long trip across the grass and rejoining the field dead last.

By the end of lap three the lead had changed hands too after Easton got a poor run out of the Russell Chicane, with Brookes capitalising to take the lead of a BSB race for the first time. Camier followed through into second, as did Ellison after a prevailing in a lap-long series of overtaking moves with the Hydrex Honda rider, who would find himself down to fourth in just one lap.

Sensing his opportunity to snatch the lead, Camier wasted no time in relieving the position from Brookes, duly taking over from lap five and proceeding to simply pull away to another race win.

Ellison did his best to give chase after passing Brookes himself on lap six, the Donington Park race winner even setting the fastest lap as he attempted to keep up with Camier.

However, with clear track ahead, Camier remained in charge to cross the line a three second winner over Ellison, a performance that ensures he now has a two-race cushion between himself and his team-mate, as well as 77 points over Easton in third.
