Airwaves crowned champions as Camier wins

Nonetheless, like Camier, he picked his way through the order to eventually cross the line in fourth place having just run out of laps to challenge Brookes for third position. Just behind, Simon Andrews fought off the attentions of Tommy Hill and Ian Lowry to finish fifth and make amends for his earlier accident.

Meanwhile, Quay Garage Honda's Gary Mason is confirmed as the 2009 Mirror.co.uk Cup champion after finishing a marvellous eighth overall, having run as high as fifth, and winning his class. Key rival Peter Hickman needed to finish second to keep his title hopes alive, but third in class means Mason wins by at least 0.5 points.

Elsewhere, Julien Da Costa posted another top ten finish in ninth, ahead of John Laverty, while Chris Walker and Graeme Gowland ended the day on a quiet note for the Motorpoint/Henderson Yamaha team in 11th and 12th.

Sylvain Guintoli finished a forgettable 13th after only just getting the better of Tommy Bridewell on the dated NB Suzuki late on, while Hickman completed the points in 15th, ahead of Karl Harris and Ryuichi Kiyonari, the latter failing to score after running off track early on.

Well done to Gary Mason. Riding a very out-dated Honda, he's not only won the cup convincingly but often given the bigger teams a damn good run for their money. He has been the real star of BSB this year. Hopefully a decent ride will be forthcoming on the back of this next season.
