Kiyonari three in a row!

HM Plant Honda rider Ryuichi Kiyonari has taken race win number three in the first race of the second round of the British Superbike championship at Thruxton.

This marks his fifth straight win in the BSB championship, after winning both races at the final round in 2004.

Virgin Yamaha's Sean Emmett led off the start ahead of HM Plant's Michael Rutter and Honda UK's Karl Harris, with Kiyonari making a place into fourth followed by the flying Hawk Kawasaki of Glen Richards in fifth.

On the final corner of the first lap Harris boldly went round the outside of Rutter to take second, meanwhile at the back of the field ex-MotoGP rider Jeremy McWilliams clipped the high kerbs, dislodging the rear tyre from its rim and sending himself off into the tarmac.

On the very next lap, Rutter returned the move Harris had pulled off on the lap previous to re-take second, with Kiyonari out dragging Harris across the line to move into third.

On the following lap Kiyonari made his presence felt by using his speed advantage around the 2.356mile circuit to out-drag both his team-mate Rutter and first placed Harris into the final chicane before the start-finish straight.

From here he cleared off into the distance very quickly with Rutter struggling to hold on.

Mid-race Rutter tried to make a challenge on the Japanese youngster but in doing so nearly lost the front of his Honda, he therefore decided to settle for second, dropping a second a lap on leader Kiyonari in the process.

Meanwhile a battle raged for third spot between the hard charging Lavilla, team-mate Haslam, Honda rider Harris, Emmett on the 'Big-Bang' Yamaha, both Hawk Kawasaki riders Dean Thomas and Glen Richards and the lead Rizla Suzuki of Scott Smart.

Lavilla took third spot convincingly with Haslam pipping Emmett to the line after out-dragging him from the final corner showing that the V-Twin Ducati still has the advantage of slow corner traction over the 'Big Bang' machine.

Harris come home in sixth with Smart close behind in seventh ahead of top Kawasaki rider Thomas. His Hawk team-mate finished one place behind in ninth.

Young gun Tommy Hill managed to fight his way into the top ten on the second Virgin Yamaha.
