Kiyonari secures Knockhill double.

Ryuichi Kiyonari secured a superb double victory at Knockhill by producing another dominant display in the second Bennetts British Superbike Championship north of the border.

For the second time in the day, Kiyonari finished ahead of HM Plant Honda team-mate Michael Rutter as the duo rode away from the field, holding the top two positions for all but the opening lap when Airwaves Ducati rider Leon Haslam briefly got ahead of Rutter to take second off the line before running wide at the Real Radio Hairpin.

As the Hondas again rode off into the distance, it was the fight for third which became the focus of peoples attention, although the battle wasn't as hard fought as in race one.

Haslam held the position in the early stages while behind John Reynolds on the Rizla Suzuki had fought his was past Dean Thomas at the hairpin for fourth place - although Michael Laverty's Stobart Honda was closing in on the rear of the trio. By lap nine Laverty had also found a way past Thomas on the run to SEAT Curve and the Hawk Kawasaki man found himself down in seventh five laps later when Gregorio Lavilla slipped past him at the hairpin as the Spaniard again worked his way up from twelfth on the grid.

Two laps later Lavilla was past Laverty in the same place for fifth. Traffic would then help the Ducati man to get past Reynolds for fourth - again at the hairpin - with Laverty also taking advantage to sweep past in Scotsman at the start of the next lap and demote Reynolds to sixth.

Lavilla now had team-mate Leon Haslam in his sites and a strong move on lap 25 allowed Lavilla to clinch the final podium place while Haslam would drop behind Laverty on the following lap and have to settle for fifth.

But for the eighth time this season, the race belonged to Kiyonari - who now sits second to Rutter in the championship standings.
