Race two at Oulton Park was action packed even before the off - and beyond the chequered flag - with Gregorio Lavilla taking victory from Karl Harris and Shane Byrne in third place following an investigation.

The race began with drama when pole sitter Leon Haslam had a technical problem with his Airwaves Ducati as he was about to head off on the warm-up lap. He promptly parked up his number one machine, ran across the track and jumped pit wall to pick up his spare bike. Unfortunately for Haslam he had to start from pit lane as he didn't complete the warm up lap. However he did manage a top ten finish, coming home in seventh.

Off the line the man on the charge was Stobart Honda's Michael Rutter, who is carrying an undisclosed injury from his fall during qualifying. Shane Byrne on the Rizla Suzuki slipped into second with Harris in third leaving championship leader Lavilla back in fourth place. James Haydon and Dean Thomas both went off at Shell hairpin, Haydon was able to restart and finish the race in seventeenth but Thomas was left to sit the race out on the tyre wall.

Harris wasn't staying in third for long pushing past Byrne to take second with Lavilla following his initiative and pouncing on the blue Rizla machine, pushing the still ill Byrne down to fourth place. Rutter's lead was short lived as Harris ran under him at Lodge corner only for Rutter to push back, but whilst the Hondas were battling the Airwaves Ducati was fast approaching and in one lap Lavilla dispensed with both of them and took the lead.

Rutter and Harris continued to battle for second place until Harris went past at Hizzy's and made the move stick, he then got his head down to keep the Airwaves Ducati firmly in his sights. Byrne who was fourth picked off Rutter also at Hizzy's on lap seven and one lap later Johnny Rea also snuck by Rutter pushing him back a place which he soon regained. The battle for third place was really on now as Kiyonari had caught up on this bunch of riders.

Rea then went on to pass Byrne at Cascades on lap fifteen, only a lap later the front runner of Lavilla and Harris made a similar move. Harris tried to get Lavilla at Cascades but Lavilla fended him off with Harris running right out over the rumble strips, he then went into the chicane a bit too hot leaving him to run slightly wide on the exit, despite all of this Harris kept his concentration and dived under Lavilla at Lodge, but it was a move that wasn't to stick as Lavilla got the drive and pipped him over the line by 0.058secs.

The action was still going on with Rea and Byrne, Rea came over the line in front of Byrne but there was an incident at the chicane that required investigation. Bryne and Rea touched leaving Rea to run on at the chicane rejoining ahead of Byrne although both riders felt they were in front before this occurred. Race control after reviewing the incident opted to penalise Rea by two seconds and Byrne by one second, which gave the third place to Byrne.
