The Airwaves Ducati pairing of Leon Haslam and Gregorio Lavilla have secured first and second places respectively during the first free practice session for the final round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch in Kent.

Whilst the Airwaves team were setting the pace with Haslam lapping in 1min 26.817secs, Lavilla's closest title rival was crashing out and causing a red flag. Ryuichi Kiyonari fell at Clearways red flagging the session; he was thankfully unhurt and able to finish in fourth place.

Third place was taken by Rizla Suzuki's James Hayden, however his team-mate and out going British Champion, John Reynolds didn't have a good start to his weekend, crashing heavily at Graham Hill bend. This also caused a red flag - Reynolds hit the tyre wall and was sent to the medical centre.

Jeremy McWilliams who is making his return to the Bennetts British Superbike championship, after being side lined through injury, was twelfth fastest on the Stobart Honda.

Top Privateer and winner of the BSB Privateers Cup championship, James Buckingham was thirteenth just ahead of Irish rider Marty Nutt. Nutt has had a good run of form lately and is now in third place in the Privateers Cup.

Julian Da Costa is being replaced this weekend on the Signal Plus Kawasaki by the young talented Aussie, Dave Johnson. Johnson, a seasoned Superstock racer, showed his worth at the 'Stars of Darley' meeting last week, where he battled with both Hawk Kawasaki Superbike riders, Glen Richards and Dean Thomas, to end up with two very credible fourth places on his Superstock machine.
