Current British Superbike Champion Gregorio Lavilla stamped his authority on the Bennetts British Superbike grid during the third free practice session at a very cold Donington Park. He lapped in 1min 32.036secs, faster than the time set on Friday by Johnny Rea to take the number one spot.

The Airwaves Ducati rider hit the top of the time sheets with twenty minutes left to run and during that time he knocked his own time down by 0.456secs - an impressive chunk of time to find. His team-mate Leon Haslam was running in fourth place and since this is his local circuit he is keen to bag a good result and the points that go with it.

Red Bull Honda rider Johnny Rea was in second place following his superb run in Friday's free practice when he was top of the pile. He admitted to that he feels there is more to come from his machine and himself so once qualifying kicks in that little bit more could make a big difference. As it stands it looks like he is set for a front row start and hopefully a podium finish.

Third place went to Shane Byrne who briefly led free practice two on Friday. The Rizla team tested in Spain recently and worked their way through various combinations and permutations on the bikes, both riders have a good base set up and it looks like it is just fine tuning and the results that they are expecting will roll in. The second Rizla machine of James Haydon was in tenth place.

A brace of Hondas took up the provisional second row with HM Plant Hondas fifth and eighth. Ryuichi Kiyonari heads the second row with Michael Laverty and Michael Rutter on the Stobart machines ahead of Karl Harris. Laverty still holds the Supersport lap record around Donington and last year when he raced here in Superbike he wasn't at full fitness due to his nasty spill at Silverstone when he was hit by a bike. Now fully fit and on the provisional second row Laverty may well shake up the regular front runners this time out.

Glen Richards on the Hydrex Honda was ninth despite a fall at Coppice during the session. Gareth Glynn joined the Craner Club when he crashed out there early in the session and the final faller was Ben Wilson who tipped off his Vivaldi Suzuki just as the chequered flag came out.
