Byrne penalised by eight grid positions.

Rizla Suzuki's Shane Byrne has been hit with a hefty penalty for not observing the chequered flag at the end of morning warm up at Thruxton. This will relegate the former GP rider to seventeenth on the grid for the third round and his team's home race of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship.

Byrne had originally qualified in ninth position, however he didn't spot the chequered and proceeded for one additional lap, during which he passed waved yellow flags and a red flag.

The Rizla Suzuki team have appealed against the penalty.
