Virgin Media Yamaha's Billy Mc Connell headed first free practice at Brands Hatch ahead of the first round of the Maxxis Supersport Championship this Easter Monday.
The former Virgin R6 Cup winner McConnell has moved into the Supersport class along with the current R6 Cup champion Tom Grant who finished the session in third place.
Separating the two Yamahas was Jamie Robinson on the Margal/Bykerbabe Honda. Michael Laverty who has moved from Superbike to Supersport with the Relentless Suzuki team was running in fourth place while his team-mate and fellow Ulsterman Ian Lowry finished in sixth.
Stuart Easton on the MSS Discovery got between the two Suzukis finishing in fifth place. Dennis Hobbs who has stayed with his Padgetts Honda team was running in seventh place and his team-mate and TT legend, John McGuinness was ninth.
Martin Jessop and Aaron Walker rounded out the top ten with Jessop in eight and Walker tenth.
