Obviously that meant for race three we had a lot of success ballast in the car. I wouldn't say we struggled exactly, but we sort of held our own in the race and picked up points, which is the main thing really. It would have been nice to have got a bit higher up the order, but at the end of the day it's all about championship points and prizes.
Looking ahead to Snetterton, I vaguely remember a three-abreast moment with Fabrizio Giovanardi and Jason Plato there last year! We ended up the worst in that one – unfortunately we were on the outside, and we had to give Jason and Fabrizio room on the inside, which allowed Matt Neal to nip up the inside too and take second. It was a little bit frustrating, but I think Snetterton suits the BMW, and it will be interesting especially to see how the SEAT goes with its extra horsepower, which is probably going to favour that circuit.
Obviously the battle for positions is very, very close, and we could come off worse than the group that's behind us in the championship and come away from Snetterton in eighth place. I think it's great to see the championship so close, although we would like to be a little bit further up the order.
If we can come out of Snetterton having pulled back in on Matt Neal and pulled out a bit of a lead over the guys behind, it would be ideal, but then everybody is trying to do the same on us too. I think the main thing is we've got to get points' finishes, three clean races and the biggest amount of points we can.
If Fabrizio has been able to pull out a 40-point lead in the first half of the season, then why can't someone else pull 40 points back in the second half? It's so close that two good results at Snetterton for anybody that's in the top eight in the championship – if Fabrizio has a nightmare of a weekend – and the championship is back on. There's still a long way to go – there's 14 races left – it's tight, and I'm sure it's going to be entertaining…
Catch you later,
Mat
