After his heroic performance during the WTCC meeting at Brands Hatch, Colin Turkington will turn his focus back to the battle for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship Independents' title as the season draws to a close this weekend at Thruxton.
Fresh from a podium finish alongside the WTCC regulars last month, the Team RAC driver will now hope to overturn the current three point lead held by Mike Jordan in the Indy title race.
With Matt Neal only one point ahead in the overall standings, the Northern Irishman will also aim to move into the top four in the championship standings to cap a fine first season with the BMW 320si.
"I was thrilled to record a podium finish for Team RAC in the World Touring Car Championship," he said. "It was a great opportunity to develop my skills and test myself on the world stage. I will also be taking part in the final round of the WTCC at Macau which will be a tough challenge but I one I am determined to rise to.
"For now though, I am now fully focused on the final round of the BTCC. The main aim is to become Independents' Champion and I would be very happy with that. If I get enough points then my position in the overall drivers' championship will go hand in hand."
Turkington added that he feels the WSR-run outfit is better prepared for the challenge of the high-speed Hampshire circuit than earlier in the season – when the special Dunlop tyre the teams are forced to use due to the abrasive nature of the track wasn't well suited to the rear-wheel drive BMW.
"We're in a better starting position than our previous visit to Thruxton," he said. "We have more pace in the car and are quicker to react to any changes with the set-up. We also completed some additional testing recently which puts us in a stronger position ahead of the final races."
