Jones disappointed by late error

Adam Jones said he was disappointed with qualifying for the latest rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship after only securing eleventh on the grid at Knockhill.

Jones, one of three drivers currently fighting for the Independents' championship crown, found himself forced to content with a lack of straight-line speed on the Team Aircool SEAT Leon throughout Saturday at the Fife circuit and was unable to break into the top ten in either free practice session.

In qualifying however, Jones looked set to take his place in the top ten before an error on his quickest lap saw him lose vital time – and vital places on the grid.

“I'm disappointed,” he said. “We were lying in seventh place and I went quicker in the first sector, but then I messed it up at the chicane and lost time. Then in the final laps, four of the buggers went quicker than me and knocked me down to eleventh! We know we could have been quicker and it will be a tough position to start from.

“No-one will behave on race day and I think there will be incidents and Safety Cars. I need to try and keep the BMWs [of Kane, Jelley and Collard] behind me off the line again and that will be a challenge, but the speed traps show that we are amongst the slowest cars here in a straight line and that is an issue for us.”
