Collard chasing winning finale

Rob Collard says he would love the chance to end his comeback season in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship with a victory on Finals Day this weekend at Brands Hatch.

After taking a year out last season, aside from an outing with GR Asia in the final rounds of the year at Thruxton, Collard returned to the BTCC this season with Motorbase but endured a tough start to the year as he acclimatised to the switch to rear wheel drive with the BMW 320si.

Although he suffered a difficult weekend last time out at Silverstone, Collard still managed to bring home a brace of top ten finishes and will now look to continue his solid end to the season at a circuit where he has tasted success in the past while driving for WSR.

“Brands Hatch is quite close to home for me so I've always really enjoyed going there because I get a lot of support from friends and the fans,” he said. “Our pace may not have been quite as good in the last round at Silverstone, but we still scored a couple of good top ten finishes so people shouldn't underestimate that. I really want to finish the year with another podium for Motorbase and I think we've got a good chance of doing it. I won the final race at Brands in 2005 so it would be nice to repeat that this weekend.

“I'm just delighted to have been back in the British Touring Car Championship in 2008. At the start of the year I had to learn about the car and the team and that was difficult to do in the short space of time we had, but everyone buckled down and was so committed to the job. That showed in the second half of the season, which brought some very good results, and we've definitely been heading the right way in terms of development.

“I think everyone in the Motorbase team from the management to the engineers and drivers wants to win and be at the sharp end in every race, which is great because it just shows how ambitious the squad is to move forward.”
