Vaulkhard targets top ten

Harry Vaulkhard says he is confident of adding to his points tally at Brands Hatch as he prepares to bring the curtain down on his debut season in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.

The Robertshaw Racing man heads to Finals Day buoyed by his best qualifying performance to date last time out at Silverstone, where he put his Chevrolet Lacetti on the fourth row of the grid.

Having also managed to secure points during the course of the weekend, he will now look for a solid end to the season at the place where he made his debut in the BTCC back in March.

“Silverstone really showed the speed we're getting out of the Chevrolet now,” he told the official BTCC website. “The season started pretty well for us at Brands and I'm confident it'll end even stronger for us. With a bit of luck, which we haven't had much of this year, I reckon we can get a couple of top ten finishes.

“I think it's been a great season; as a driver I've learnt so much this year. We now seem to be getting on top of the car but we're always skating uphill in a 2006 S2000-spec car.

“It's been a bit frustrating at times as we seemed to have had so much bad luck just when we feel we're about to break through. However, if we can get the car nearer to the technical specification of the leading cars on the grid I know that we have the ability to run at the front.”

Vaulkhard will once again be the lone Chevrolet on the grid with the team having been unable to fill the seat vacated by Matt Allison earlier in the year but Alan Taylor will continue in his Honda Integra as he seeks a positive finish to a troubled campaign.

Having been hit by engine woes last time out at Silverstone, he will hit the track with a new engine for the final weekend of the season and said he was targeting three solid races to finish the year.

“The Integra's got a fresh engine for Brands and we've replaced all the parts we needed to, so I'm really excited about it,” he said. “I'm hoping to get into the top 15 at some point and more importantly have three strong races to end the season on a high.”
