Ginetta secures extra BTCC slot

With SEAT having pulled the plug on its involvement in UK motor sport, Ginetta is to double it's presence on the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship bill with the announcement that the G50 Series will replace the SEAT Cupra Championship on the BTCC's support package.

The G50 Series, which has proved to be a huge success in its first year, will join Ginetta's Junior Championship, the Renault Clio Cup, Formula Renault and the Porsche Carrera Cup on the support card with a deal having been inked until the end of 2010 at least.

"Ginetta is proud to secure the Ginetta G50 Cup on the BTCC tour," Ginetta's Richard Dean said. "We consider the BTCC to be one of the highest profile motor sport series in the world. Ginetta's strong presence underlines the hard work put in by everybody at the company over the last two years.

"The G50 Cup was a totally new championship this year and has been well received by drivers, teams and spectators. We expect it will grow even stronger on the prestigious BTCC package.

"The extensive TV coverage and huge crowds fit with our longer-term ambitions for the Ginetta brand to be recognised as a serious British sports car manufacturer."

BTCC series director Alan Gow was also pleased to confirm the deal with strengthens the relationship started with Ginetta at the start of the year when the Junior Championship was introduced onto the package.

"Our support races are a vital part of the BTCC race weekends, which provide our hundreds of thousands of fans (and millions more watching on ITV) with the best motor sport action in Britain," he said. "I'm very pleased to have made this arrangement with Ginetta and am sure the G50s will provide some really entertaining and exciting action, thus proving to be a popular addition to our line-up.

"Having developed a great relationship with Ginetta in 2008, it made perfect sense to further strengthen this by including its G50 Championship in our support package."
