Top ten BTCC drivers: Andrew Jordan

After asking you to vote for your leading drivers from the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season, the time has come to start the count-down to the driver you voted the top star of 2008.

Over the next ten days, we will be revealing the top ten in reverse order, with the winner being revealed on Friday 14 November.

More than 7,000 votes were cast on the BTCC poll, with each drivers average score out of ten then being calculated to decide the winner.

BTCC Driver of the Year – Fifth place:

Name: Andrew Jordan
Team: John Guest Racing
Car: Honda Integra (BTC-Spec)
Wins: 0
Podiums: 2
Fastest laps: 0
Championship points: 56
Championship position: 13th

In his first season of touring car competition, Andrew Jordan was nothing short of a revelation, running alongside his father Mike in a two-car John Guest Racing line-up. It marked the first time a father and son team had been seen in the 50 year history of the BTCC.

Despite expectations being played down ahead of the year due to the teenagers limited knowledge of circuit racing, he was quickly up to speed and picked up a top-ten finish in his first weekend as a touring car racer at Brands Hatch. A weekend beset by mechanical woes followed at Rockingham before a stunning weekend at Donington Park that yielded two Independents' wins.

It was Thruxton however where young Jordan really showed his talents, fighting door-handle to door-handle with the likes of Jason Plato for the lead of race three before he was forced to retire, but the podium result would come following the summer break as Jordan clinched a hugely popular third place in the final race at Oulton Park.

He repeated the feat at Knockhill and having achieved all the goals that were set for him for his debut season, Jordan will now seek to make even more of an impact in 2009 when he could well become a regular podium contender armed with a Vauxhall Vectra.

"The chance to drive the best Super 2000 car in the BTCC is an awesome chance for me, and I certainly intend to make the absolute most out of it,” he said. “I can't quite get over the fact that I've gone from Junior Rallycross to a Triple Eight built Vauxhall Vectra in five years.

"It is going to be a very big year for me and I want to do my best for everyone involved. It definitely gives me the chance to win races and my target for the year is to score a race win and really challenge for the Independents' Trophy."
