Turner proud of latest BRDC honour

Darren Turner says he is proud to have been recognised once again by the BRDC for his success in the Le Mans 24 Hours after being awarded the Woolf Barnato Trophy for the second successive year.

Turner took the award, handed out to the highest-placed British or Commonwealth driver in a British car in the Le Mans 24 Hours, for the second year in a row after successfully defending the GT1 title in the La Sarthe classic.

Sharing the #009 Aston Martin Racing DBR9 with David Brabham โ€“ who shared the award โ€“ and Spaniard Antonio Garcia, Turner finished in a fine 13th place overall, beating the rival Corvette of Johnny O'Connell, Jan Magnussen and Ron Fellows into second by less than a lap.

"I'm very proud to have received the Woolf Barnato trophy," Turner, who raced at Le Mans alongside his programme in the British Touring Car Championship with SEAT, said. "Any recognition from the BRDC is a very special honour. Obviously winning at Le Mans is an incredible experience and this year's difficult track and weather conditions were very similar to 2007, making every pit stop and tyre choice critical.

"As last year, Aston Martin Racing performed to the highest level and, for the second year running, #009 spent the least amount of time in the pits compared to every other car in the race. To win by less than a lap shows not only how competitive the race was in GT1, but also that this achievement can only happen with great team work."
