Accident Exchange pulls Jackson backing

The BMW Dealer Team UK name looks set to be missing from the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship grid after Accident Exchange revealed it was to end its sponsorship of Mat Jackson.

The company revealed that it will not back the 2008 runner-up into the new campaign as the credit crunch continues to bite, although the it could return at a later date once the current financial downturn has come to an end.

While the announcement will leave Jackson looking for new backers for the coming season however, he remains focused on securing his place on the grid in a bid to fight for the championship crown.

"Experts are telling us that the current economic downturn is going to be a long-term issue and we feel that it is important to concentrate our financial spend on providing better support to our BMW dealer partners in the coming period," Accident Exchange chief executive Steve Evans explained. "We felt it was more appropriate to assist them in retaining customers and converting new business opportunities into profit over the next twelve months.

"Our debut touring car season was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to the hard work, passion and vision of the team and of course, the efforts on the track of our driver.

"Our BTCC experience has been a very positive one and we look forward to reconsidering entering the series again when global economic conditions have improved."
