The HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship has reached the half-way point, with Team RAC driver Colin Turkington leading the way as he chases his maiden title.

Impressive form in the meetings at Oulton Park and Croft have allowed the BMW driver to move into the points lead in time for the summer break, but with 15 races still to go, he can't afford to ease up in his quest to lift the title.

Double Independent champion Turkington has been the man to beat so far this season, and has picked up five victories at the half-way stage. In wins terms, 2009 is already the most successful season of his career having surpassed the four wins he secured last year.

Four wins in the past six races have allowed the Northern Irishman to jump to the head of the field and the BMW 320si has emerged as the car to beat through the first half of the year.

Having scored at an average of nearly ten points a race so far, the double Indy champion will be hard to beat, especially with the improving Stephen Jelley now in a position to fully support his team leader.

Turkington has only failed to score twice this season. Title-winning form?

Two-time champion Matt Neal started the season style with victory in the opening round of the year at Brands Hatch and didn't finish off the podium until the final race of round two at Thruxton.

In all, Neal has taken to the podium on eight occasions so far and has scored points in each of the 15 races, but his strong start has faltered somewhat in the last two meetings where his Vecta has struggled to match the pace of the BMW in hot conditions.
