I think were starting to see the rise of the diesels...only a matter of time before theres a similar situation to whats happening in the WTCC...although Seat do have about 6 cars in that or something rediculous. I do think its a bit early to punish them with weight as it does make for great racing (not that its ever boring to watch) although not if the same happens everywhere as what happened at Snetterton.

It's still remarkably close. The SEAT in WTCC is more consistent maybe around all tracks, but surely that's the sign of a championship winning car. BMW showed consistency through their use of rear-wheel drive. Now SEAT are exercising the same principle with a diesel engine. It's just swings and roundabouts because the actual advantage is not as great as people make out - that's even if there really is a genuine advantage, which I'm not convinced by.

You may complain as much as you want, but the FIA has sold the WTCC/BTCC to Volkswagen A.G. as a marketing tool for TDI engines, so nothing will change, except if a petrol engine ends up being faster, which would immediately cause a change in the rules to make sure the diesels still dominate.

Look how discrete the organisers are about the fact that diesels are allowed the very same capacity as petrol engines, but with turbocharger!

It's like Le Mans/LMS/ALMS, sold to Volkswagen A.G. and Peugeot S.A. to showcase their diesel engines with bent rules where 5.5 litres twin turbo diesels are allowed against 6 litres aspirated petrol engines with air restrictors...

If you want to look at the letter of the rules, the SEAT is actually the only legal car on the WTCC grid. The others all have some kind of weight dispensation etc. It would be a problem maybe if diesel was dominating... but its not. I think WTCC organisers are more or less spot on with their current regs - even the BMW drivers are content that SEAT have exploited a rule very impressively and they don't blame them for doing so. They just got there first.

And rolling starts were put in place to help Chevrolet and Alfa, not just SEAT. Until there is a problem, something will need to be done. Until then, I'm going to enjoy some close racing, regardless of what fuel is used.
