That's actually really excellent news. I'm no fan of ITV usually - especially how they dumped F1 even if it did mean it put it in much better hands at the Beeb - but they've done a really impressive job with this. A whole afternoon/6 hours of a motorsport meet on TV - fantastic!!!

That's good for ITV,on the back of this news perhaps they could consider reinstating their live BSB coverage? Our premier domestic championships should be aired on terrestrial TV.

just more proof that where theres real racing theres real fans.

if only f1 could manage something like this, the BTCC could be a rough blueprint for F1 to follow, close racing that you can get behind and enjoy, its not all down to daft exhauts and massive amounts of downforce, a puncture for hitting the curbs too hard adds more to a race than DRS or KERS

Whilst the television audience is up, the attendance of race fans is down by the same figures.
Series director Alan Gow will not be bothered as revenue from the circuit for holding the event & Channel 4 compensates him quite generously.
It will ruin the BTCC having it live on terrestrial television much longer, who is going to pay £25 - £30 each to gain entrance to a circuit plus fuel & food money, when you can sit comfortably at home watch all 3 races & support races for free.
It is simple economics that people will look at the cheaper option & stay at home. I wonder how long it will be before the circuit Owners cannot afford to hold the event as no attendance money is coming in.
I wonder if Mr. Gow will be so thrilled with the figures in a couple of years when there will be no where to stage his series.

Not sure how the trackside and TV fans will react to it being renamed Plato Touring Car Championship.

His whinging is killing the sport. Although when he wins the 3 races this weekend he wont complain.........
