Neal was at least a half a car ahead of Plato, otherwise he wouldn't have spun that way. As for a "tap", Plato appeared to keep his foot on the throttle. He was caught napping and decided to take Neal out. Will he be penalised? Of course not, which is why I won't bother with the series any more.

two dirty drivers, so there was always going to be trouble. A "charming" plato said that neale tried to overtake him on the grass, but what he didnt say was that he pushed him onto the grass! and yes, neale was actually ahead of plato. still, he didnt go off on a tirade about the unfairness of the hondas being faster than the chevy!

I used to like Neal, but he's been getting dirtier in the last few years, I agree.
We've recently seen some drivers being chastised for bad/dirty driving, but they won't penalise Plato, even though he denied us the spectacle of a good fight at the front of the race. The problem is that contact is accepted, although it's a non-cotact sport, and discretion seems to allowed for certain personailities.
It doesn't help that Plato whinges so much...

If you're going to be on the outside of someone coming out of a corner be sure you're ahead FULLY or they'll have the option to run you off the track, your fully dependant on them letting you off the hook otherwise.

Plato was never going to let Matt Neale off the hook!!!

I suspect Neale knew he was in trouble when he realised he hadn't cleared Plato by corner exit and it was a rookie mistake on his part to allow himself to be in that position. That's probably why he didn't say as much about the incident as he has other times.

There has always been contact in BTCC, more than in other top touring car series, but it has got to the point of being silly in the last couple of years. I used to be a big fan, but no more. watched some on ITV4 today, but soon got fed up with it, it's more like banger racing now. Put Neale, Plato and a couple of the others in a proper race series, say GT's, and they would be black flagged in no time. You wonder why the top European racers used to come to BTCC but don't anymore ?

there has always been contact in the btcc think back to the mid ninties it was like a banger racing in £250k cars, racing these days is by far the cleanest its been for a long long time.
top european drivers dont come to the btcc anymore as there aren't really any factory teams apart from chevvy and honda to an extent.
as for the plato/neal incident these two are pretty much the class of the field both have a huge desire to win and will always battle to the end hence why their double champions, if anyone actually saw the start of race 1 you would have noticed as plato came out the corner the back of his car went loose he corrected slightly then when the back end straightened he clipped neal pure racing incident from what i saw, motor racing is about taking chances mat neal took a chance it didn't come off simple

Neally - I agree up to a point about the lack of semi-works teams, but there are plenty of out-or-work experienced touring car drivers hanging around in Europe who could do a much better job that some of the people racing in cars that are currently mid-field and should really be up the front. There haven't really been many quasi-offical teams for a few years now, but there were still some big names driving who now give it a miss. I'm sure its more down to the rough driving tactics that has got worse in the last few years that makes some of these guys think it isn't worth their while being regularly punted off by the likes of Plato and Neale.

Lets summarise Tough!'s post:

If you put your car in a position where a cheating **** can take you out, you deserve it.

Hmm. Wonder what the MSA and ARDS instructors would think of that.

Got to love the way Plato was penalised (so obviously did wrong) but lost nothing, whilst Neal had his whole day screwed up.

If he isn't getting the turbo's handicapped, he is cheating.

I think everybody saw what happened. Don't expect the MSA stewards to do anything too radical in terms of punishment, as they are too scared to do anything to these guys. They will not hesitate to sanction people at club level but BTCC? - no! - too high profile!!!
