VXR: 100 not out.

In the latest column for VXR, VX Racing team boss Ian Harrison reflects on a 100th victory for Vauxhall in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, and we present the figures surrounding one of the most successful entrants in BTCC history.

I'm really pleased to have got the 100th victory as everyone at VX Racing and Vauxhall, and all of our sponsors, have had to be patient this year and it has finally come good. I think it is a win that bodes well for the future, and we have finally got the driver and team combo starting to click so I'm happy.

Fabrizio did exactly what we knew he could do to secure the victory and anyone who has seen him driving in the World Touring Car Championship knows that he can drive like that. It is up to us to give Fabrizio a car to put in a performance like that and at Knockhill we just managed to give him a car that was good – so all credit to him. In that race we also have to give credit to Gavin for producing a fine drive to come from the back of the field and finish right up at the front, while Tom was unlucky to get caught up in the incident with Plato and a few others – or he would have been right up there too.

It's always pleasing to get a win and you can never become complacent. We have won a lot of races over the last five years and we are going through a bit of a rebuild at the moment with new people on the team. These kind of things don't happen overnight and anyone who thinks that it does, doesn't understand motorsport. We have to keep working hard and build towards next year and getting back to where we know we should be – and where we can be.

We have been strong at a few circuits this season and we have been unlucky on a few occasions. We should have won at Donington Park and didn't quite manage it and we've had seconds and thirds at other circuits. One thing that did work in our favour at Knockhill is that the engine is really strong this year. Raphael Caille who works for us and the Sodemo guys in France have done a cracking job and it showed, but every little bit helps and the victory is a culmination of things.

We'll keep trying for more victories now and won't give up – we certainly aren't quitters. We'll be trying as hard as we can until the end of the season but in touring cars you need a little bit of luck sometimes. There are guys going off everywhere and if you can keep out of the trouble then you're in with a shout, so we'll keep pushing and developing the car until the season comes to a close.
