Q&A: John George – EXCLUSIVE

22 March 2007

The original pioneer of alternative fuels in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, John George, will return for to the series this season running in a TH Motorsport prepared Honda Integra.

George, who was powered by LPG for his entry with Mardi Gras, will compete in the BTCC for the first time since 2004 at the wheel of the car that carried Matt Neal to the title last season.

Crash.net Radio took the chance to speak to George about his BTCC comeback…

Q:
You're back in the BTCC with a Honda Integra, so how good is it to be back?

John George:
I'm really pleased to be back in the BTCC and it's also nice to be back in a car that should be able to do something this time.

Q:
It's been a few years since you were here last, so what made you decide to come back?

John George:
I'd always planned to come back into the series and I was going to be racing in the following season [2005], but my drive in the Peugeot 307 disappeared when Vic Lee had his problems with the VLR team. It's just taken me until now to find a way back in again!

Q:
So how did the deal come about to run the Integra?

John George:
I'd seen how well Mike Jordan was doing last season and I though that that was the way to do it, to go out there and buy a really good car. I spoke to Dynamics towards the end of last season and they said that they would be changing cars so we put our name down to make sure we got hold of one.

Q:
You've been doing quite a bit of testing, you were out well before Christmas, so what have been your impressions so far?

John George:
The car is really good and handles infinitely better than the Peugeot ever did. It's very strong and very powerful, the gearbox is very strong and it handles in a totally different way to the Peugeot.

Q:
What are your expectations for the season ahead?

John George:
Realistically, I'd like to finish one race on each weekend inside the top ten and we'll go from there. In the first few rounds, with everyone developing new cars, I think it will be a lottery and we'll have to see.

Q:
Do you think there will be a nice little battle that will develop during the season between the drivers running with BTC-spec cars?

John George:
I think there has to be. Some of the new cars are so new in development that they will have problems and there will be lots of little battles develop throughout the field.
