Erkut Kizilirmak opened his account for the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season with a fine tenth place finish in the challenging wet conditions that hit the second round of the campaign at Rockingham.

The Turkish racer, who competed in the season opener at Brands Hatch last month having not sat in his Arkas Racing with Sunshine.co.uk Astra Sport Hatch since last seasons final rounds at Thruxton, was able to keep his car on track in a tricky race to claim a fine tenth place finish and also added solid points to his Independents' points tally in the process.

After a 17th place finish in race one, Erkut took 18th in race two and then made progress through the field in the heavy rain to climb into ninth place.

Although he lost position to Mike Jordan close to the finish, he was still able to score his - and the teams - first point of the season in conditions he hadn't encountered much back in his homeland.

However, despite the point, he admitted that the race could have given him more.

"Everybody was congratulating me when I got out of the car but I was a bit frustrated as I know where I made some mistakes and where I could have been faster," he said. "The car was fantastic, the team is working really well and if the start hadn't been delayed we would have been in an even better position as we were one of the first to make the decision to go to wet tyres.

"It was big fun today, I'm very happy and pleased to see Martyn in the Independent points too. I guess after today I can conclude I was probably meant to be born an Englishman as I seem to like this weather! I've been teased about being the 'Rain Master'. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, but after today I am hoping for more wet races!"
