Taylor hopes for change in luck.

Alan Taylor has admitted that he hopes that luck will finally be on his side as he returns to the scene of his debut in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend.

Taylor made his first outing in the BTCC at Knockhill in the penultimate rounds of the 2007 campaign and managed to score a top ten finish in his first outing in the Robertshaw Racing-run Honda Integra, although his first full year in the series this season has proved to be a challenging one with a number of issues throughout the year.

The last three race meetings in particular have proved to be difficult for Taylor, with a heavy accident on home soil at Croft prior to the summer break being followed by a weekends of problems at both Snetterton and Oulton Park.

With his recent run of bad luck, Taylor admits that keeping his head up hasn't been easy but he said he was hopeful that his luck will turn on the annual trip to Scotland.

"It's very difficult not to let your head drop, because you feed off the success of your last meeting," he said. "Micky Doyle for example is getting to grips with his car and is getting a nice little string of finishes and moving up the field in similar running gear to what I have. You need that consistency because it does grain at your brain cells when things aren't going well. To have to raise yourself after every meeting, and lift your team, isn't easy when they are trying their hardest and something breaks or I make an error.

"We just seem to have had no luck at all this year. Lets hope that Knockhill is the start as we said it ahead of Oulton Park but it didn't really happen, although I'll take heart from the final race there where we found a bit of pace and I was racing with the likes of Jason Plato and Tom Onslow-Cole before I lost the back end. But we'll learn from it and go forward for Knockhill."

Readily admitting that he took it easy at Knockhill last year on his debut in the BTCC, Taylor added that he was keen to get racing at the picturesque circuit overlooking the Firth of Forth, with his focus being on bringing home some much needed finishes and avoiding any further damage bills.

"Last year was a big learning curve for me, getting thrown in at the deep end," he said, "and I was loathe to try and overtake people. I know I took a bit of stick for not trying to pass Martyn Bell and Fiona Leggate at the time, but I was more focused on trying to finish races and learn off some very good drivers.

"This year I will be trying harder and putting the nose into places where it maybe should have gone last year. I think I did a 55.3secs lap last year so I have to get into the 54secs this year and if I do that, I'll be with the likes of John George and Michael Doyle which is where I need to be.

"Hopefully I won't be losing any more bumpers either, as I seem to be keeping Dynamics in business at the moment and I can't afford it!"
