Tom Onslow-Cole said he was prepared to take the fight to SEAT at Knockhill after qualifying on the second row of the grid for the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship's annual trip to Scotland.

The youngster proved to be the pace-setter amongst the VX Racing drivers throughout Saturday at the Fife venue as he ran inside the top three in both free practice sessions.

Although he slipped down to fourth place during qualifying, the second-year driver was then promoted a position due to Tom Chilton's six-place penalty for his Oulton Park indiscretion and said he was happy with how the session had gone.

"It's not been a bad day and it's a good result at the end of it," he said. "I could possibly have gone quicker, but I don't think it would have changed my position at the end of it.

"It's really close in terms of the times but we didn't expect to get miracles in qualifying. The grid position will be vital as there are only thousandths of a second in it and it is difficult to pass round here. I'd prefer it to be dry and if it is, then I feel we have a chance. I've not had as much running in the car in the wet and if it rains, then we just need to play it by ear a bit and see what happens."
