Jones: Don't count me out

Adam Jones has warned rivals Mat Jackson and Colin Turkington not to count him out in the battle to secure the 2008 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship Independents' title.

Engine problems with the Team Aircool SEAT Leon led to a frustrating weekend in Scotland for Jones who now lies third in the standings as a result; 35 points behind defending champion Turkington and 17 behind fellow BMW man Jackson.

While only 90 points are up for grabs in the final two rounds of the season, Jones insisted he could still overhaul the drivers ahead, although he admits that the Silverstone National Circuit this weekend was one that won't favour his car.

"I still think I'm in with a chance because we have been quite consistent all season and you never know what can happen next in the BTCC," he told the BTCC website. "I live in hope and want to do well at Silverstone. The petrol Leon, which we run, did struggle in 2006 at Silverstone in the hands even of the factory team and I'm expecting us to have a struggle, too.

"The BMWs need to have a disaster, but if they both drive into each other that would be good! We need to take Independent wins of course, but there are other BMWs and the two John Guest Honda Integras that can take points away from me and them.

"The main thing will be to hang as best as possible. If I can keep in touch then the car should be good at Brands Hatch as it was really good out of the box there in March. My game plan is to give it my all as always."

Jones also lies inside the top ten in the overall championship standings going into the weekend.
