Fabrizio Giovanardi has admitted that he will be looking to collect the points needed to secure a second straight HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship title 'as soon as possible' on Finals Day at Brands Hatch.

The Italian heads into the weekend with a lead of 44 points over Jason Plato, and with a maximum of 52 available from the three races, needs to score just nine points to cement back-to-back titles at the wheel of his Vectra.

Not taking into account the bonus points on offer for pole position, leading a lap and setting fastest lap, those nine points would be secured with a third place finish in the opening race of the weekend and Giovanardi admitted that he was hopeful of picking up the result needed as soon as possible.

"Brands Hatch looks like an easy circuit to drive, but it isn't," he said. "It will be so important to watch the points' standings; I'm hoping for a podium finish in the first race so that we can secure the championship titles early on. Hopefully it will rain again too!"

Team-mate Matt Neal lies fifth in the standings, but could finish as high as third if results go his way over the course of the weekend.

Having already won at Brands Hatch in the past, including securing the 2005 drivers' title on the longer Grand Prix circuit, the double champion said he was excited heading into the season finale and was confident of helping Vauxhall to wrap up a hat-trick of titles.

"I'm really looking forward to the final rounds at Brands Hatch," he said. "I have so much experience on the Indy circuit there and I hope to be as successful there this year as I have been in previous seasons.

"The championship titles are within our grasp now, and we really need to pull together as a team and drive with our heads."
