Former British Touring Car Championship racer James Kaye is to make his return to racing this weekend when he takes part in the Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone.
Kaye will be at the wheel of a new race-going version of the latest incarnation of the Mitsubishi Evo – with the programme being run by Mitsubishi UK in association with the Southampton-based vehicle importation and compliance specialists SVA UK, of which Kaye is the managing director.
The car has been constructed by the same ADR Motorsport team behind the Mitsubishi British Rally Championship campaign, and Kaye said he couldn't wait to get behind the wheel of the car.
“As I'm yet to race this season I'm not only looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, but also driving the new Mitsubishi,” he said. “It is anticipated that the engine will develop around 400bhp which, together with the Evo's four-wheel-drive system and inherently good chassis, should make it a highly-competitive package.”
The Silverstone entry will come ahead of proposed full season in Britcar in 2009, while Mitsubishi could also bring into play a one-make series for the Evo X if there is enough interest.
