Tom Onslow-Cole led the way in the second free practice session for the final rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch as the VX Racing man continued his solid form from earlier in the day.
Onslow-Cole posted a best time of 49.352secs during the second 40 minute session which saw him end up 0.047secs clear of the Team Halfords Honda of Gordon Shedden. Shedden's team-mate Tom Chilton, who had paced the opening session of the weekend, ended up third but was less than a tenth of a second off the pace. The top three drivers in the first session were again the top three in session two – albeit in a different order.
Colin Turkington again had the edge on Mat Jackson and was fourth quickest for Team RAC ahead of Darren Turner and Steven Kane, with Jackson seventh and Adam Jones – the final man in contention for the Independents' crown – completing the top eight. Jason Plato and Stephen Jelley rounded out the top ten.
Points leader Fabrizio Giovanardi was eleventh having posted his quickest time shortly before the session was brought to a premature end when Chris Stockton slid off into the gravel at Druids, with the Italian having run well down the order prior to the final minutes.
His VX Racing team-mate Mat Neal was down in 14th place in a session where the top 18 drivers were covered by just a second for the second time in the day.
Erkut again failed to set a time in his Astra Coupe, and with the car having developed an engine issue, his dream of racing the car is over. The Arkas Racing crew has headed off to pick up his Astra Sport Hatch to allow the Turkish racer to take part on race day.
