Mike Jordan hangs up helmet.

With the announcement that son Andrew will move up to a Vauxhall Vectra for 2009, Mike Jordan has elected to bring the curtain down on his HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship career.

Jordan has long stated that the time would arrive when he would hang up his helmet to aid his son in his future career and that time has now come, with the former GT racer electing to manage Andy's programme during his second season in the series.

It brings to an end a successful three-year run in the BTCC for Jordan, who took a hugely popular victory at Mondello Park back in 2006 and had a best finish of eighth overall in the standings last year.

"I knew it was inevitable that I would eventually swap my crash helmet for a headset, but I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy for the chance that Andrew has got at 19," he said. "I'm hugely excited about our programme for 2009 and that John Guest is continuing into a 15th season with us. This is an amazing opportunity for all our commercial partners.

"On the day we signed the deal with Triple Eight, it was almost exactly five years to the day that we went to collect Andrew's first competition car, his rallycross Mini. It's been an incredible journey to get here and I can't wait to see how this next chapter in his career unfolds."
