Motorbase not planning European entry.

Motorbase Performance team boss David Bartrum has revealed that there are no plans in place to take part in the annual end of season European Touring Car Cup, which will be held in Austria later this month.

The event brings together teams running to Super 2000 rules in a number of series around Europe, including the BTCC, DTCC and STCC.

No BTCC team has elected to take part in the event since 2005, when SEAT Sport UK entered a Toledo Cupra for Jason Plato, who won one of the two races and finished second to Richard Goransson in the standings.

Plato had been due to take part again in 2006 before SEAT pulled its entry, while GR Asia – the team running Adam Jones' Team Aircool SEAT Leon – has run in the event in each of the three years but without utilising any of its BTCC drivers.

Having enjoyed a strong finish to its first BTCC campaign with the BMW 320si – scoring more points than anyone bar Vauxhall and SEAT during the second half of the year – speculation suggested that Motorbase could elect to do one more race and take in the event at the Salzburgring but team chief Bartrum admits it isn't currently on the radar.

"As much as we would like to do it, the budget is not currently available," he revealed to Crash.net. "Therefore there are no plans to take part at the moment."

Team RAC continues to be linked with a possible entry, with team boss Dick Bennetts having said on Finals Day that the team could take part in 'one more race' this year.
