Trio to join Motorbase test

A trio of drivers are to join Motorbase Performance for two days of testing at Brands Hatch as he continues to work towards a place on the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship grid in 2009.

Jonathan Adam, the double SEAT Cupra Championship title winner, will hit the track today [Tuesday] alongside Tim Harvey at the wheel of a BMW 320si. The test will be his second experience of touring car machinery in little under a month after he drove the SEAT Leon TDi at Silverstone as part of his prize for lifting the SEAT title.

“It's going to be good to let another team see exactly what I'm capable of,” he told the Knockhill circuit website. “It'll take me a couple of laps to settle in, because I haven't driven a rear-wheel drive since I tested the Renault Megane Trophy car in 2005, but I normally adjust to something new pretty quick.”

However, despite earning the test, Adam admitted that the current economic climate wouldn't make it easy to find the funds required to secure a place on the BTCC grid.

“It's never been easy raising sponsorship, but at the moment it's almost impossible,” he added. “The first thing companies do when times get tough is pull back on their marketing budgets.

“But we've proved we're a championship-winning package so hopefully we can raise the necessary funds to go racing again next season.”

The second day of the test will see another driver with SEAT experience in the shape of SEAT Leon Eurocup racer James Nash hit the track alongside one of Harvey's Porsche Carrera Cup rivals, Michael Caine.

“We will be giving BRDC rising star Jonathan Adam a chance to sample rear wheel drive under Tim's watch eye,” team boss David Bartrum said. “Weather permitting that's day one and on day two another young driver James Nash will be in the BMW along with another 2009 touring car hopeful Michael Caine.

“It will be good to see what Tim and Michael, who finished champion and runner-up in this year's Carrera cup think of a modern BMW Tourer as they have both driven other BMWs

“James has been driving in the SEAT Eurocup and Jonathan has been in the same car in the UK so again it will be interesting to see what they think.”
