Top ten BTCC drivers: Tenth place.

After asking you to vote for your leading drivers from the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season, the time has come to start the count-down to the driver you voted the top star of 2008.

Over the next ten days, we will be revealing the top ten in reverse order, with the winner being revealed on Friday 14 November.

More than 7,000 votes were cast on the BTCC poll, with each drivers average score out of ten then being calculated to decide the winner.

BTCC Driver of the Year – Tenth place:

Name: Mike Jordan
Team: John Guest Racing
Car: Honda Integra (BTC spec)
Wins: 0
Podiums: 0
Fastest laps: 0
Championship points: 34
Championship position: 14th

The 2008 BTCC season turned out to be the swansong for Mike Jordan, who revealed at the end of the year that he would be standing down from driving duties to help mentor son Andrew.

As part of the first father and son team in the history of the series, Jordan Sr went into the season hopeful of fighting for podium finishes at the wheel of his BTC-spec Honda Integra.

Indeed Mike came close to a podium finish in the opening rounds of the year at Brands Hatch with a fourth place in the final race of the weekend.

While that would ultimately prove to be his best result of the year, Jordan showed the pace of the Honda throughout the year but admitted that, with son Andrew impressing in the sister car, the time would arrive when he would be forced to turn his focus to aiding the youngster on his way up the motor sport ladder.

Having seen Andrew take a brace of podium finishes at Oulton Park and Knockhill, Mike duly confirmed once the season was over that he won't be back on the grid next year and will instead back Andrew as he swaps over to a Vauxhall Vectra.

"I knew it was inevitable that I would eventually swap my crash helmet for a headset, but I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy for the chance that Andrew has got at 19," he reflected, "It's been an incredible journey to get here and I can't wait to see how this next chapter in Andrew's career unfolds."
