Motorbase names Adam

Motorbase Performance has confirmed the signing of double SEAT Cupra Championship title winner Jonathan Adam for the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season.

The 24-year-old Scot, who won the SEAT title in 2007 and 2008, will partner Rob Collard for the season ahead as he finally makes the move up the BTCC, having long been linked to a move into touring cars.

Adam tested the team's BMW 320si at Brands Hatch following the conclusion of the 2008 campaign and impressed team boss David Bartrum immediately with his performance on track, with Bartrum making no secret of his desire to try and put the Scot into a race seat.

With a deal now confirmed for the season ahead, Bartrum admitted he was thrilled to get his man.

“I'm delighted to have secured Jonathan Adam for the 2009 season,” he said. “We tested him last October having come to us very highly recommended, and his professional approach impressed us. From the first moment we started working with him in the garage and in the car we realised he was keen to learn and very ambitious.

“I think Jonathan will do a really good for Motorbase this year and will be very competitive once he settles in to the car. He will also be able to learn a lot from working alongside Rob Collard with all his experience, so I am convinced we have the right drivers to ensure Motorbase is successful in 2009.”

Adam, who has also been named as a member of the BRDC Superstars scheme for the season ahead alongside fellow BTCC young gun Andrew Jordan, was understandably pleased with the deal and said his aim was to fight for victories 'as soon as possible'.

“This is a huge opportunity for me and I have to thank David Bartrum and Motorbase Performance for giving me the chance to drive in the BTCC,” he said. “It's something I have been aiming for three or four years and now it's a dream come true. My experience in the Cupra Cup was great because it gave me an insight into the BTCC and prepared me by allowing me to learn to race in a really tough championship.

“This is another big step up but the BMW 320si is a great car and Motorbase is an ambitious team determined to move forward very quickly, and I want to help it do that. The team has found some very good set up options from last season and understands how to make the car perform, so I think we will show good pace throughout the year. The goal is to get podiums and challenge for a win as soon as possible. I can't wait to get started.”

Motorbase will unveil its new livery during next weeks Media Day at Rockingham.
