Top three target for Collard

Rob Collard says he is hoping to secure a top three championship position as he returns for a second HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season with the Motorbase Performance team.

Collard, who was one of the form men during the second half of the 2008 campaign, will be partnered by Jonathan Adam this year in a new look Motorbase team – now running under the banner of Airwaves BMW thanks to a title sponsorship deal signed over the winter.

Already the new pairing has shown the potential to carry the form from the end of 2009 into the new campaign, with both cars having run right at the front during testing at Brands Hatch earlier this week, with Collard confident he has a package with which to fight at the front.

“I believe the Indy crown is there to be taken,” he told “Colin Turkington will be strong as will Gordon Shedden. I believe they will be the two to beat, but a top three in the Independents' has to be the target at least.

“If you are top three there, then you could be in the top three overall as there is no reason why you won't be at the front of the main championship if you are around the top of the Independents'. We also have to try and take as many wins as possible along the way.”

Collard, a former Independents' champion already from his time with his own Collard Racing team, added that he was enjoying working with double SEAT champion Adam and was hopeful that both would challenge for honours during the season ahead.

“I always seem to get partnered with up and coming superstars!” he said. “I got on very well with Steven last year and got on well with Colin Turkington before that, and now I'm with Johnny. So far, we have got on well and he is very quick and very focused.

“I really want to work with a team-mate so we can bring things on and it is important that one of us wins. I'd rather it was me of course, but from a team point of view, we need to be running at the front.”
