One car for Tempus at Brands Hatch

Tempus Sport has revealed that it will only run one car in the opening rounds of the 2009 HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch this weekened.

The series debutantants had been hoping to secure a second driver to line-up alongside Harry Vaulkhard for the opening event of the new campaign, with former series champion Jason Plato and SEAT Eurocup racer James Nash having been linked as possible partners for the second-year driver.

However, any deal hasn't yet been signed which will leave Vaulkhard to go it alone at the Kent circuit, although team boss Richard Coleman said he remainded confident of filling the vacant seat.

“It seems like such a short time ago that we started putting the team together and now here we are poised to start our first races of 2009,” he said. “Brands is a great circuit and we've seen what the RML Chevrolet Lacetti can do here in the World Touring Car Championship, so we're very positive going into our first ever BTCC race.

“We were hoping to have a second car out at Brands too, unfortunately that hasn't quite come together yet. However, we're working on several options to have a second car out later in the year. It's going to be quite some weekend for us. The team may be new, but our crew oozes experience, this will be the first time when we get to put that all into practice for a race weekend.”

Vaulkhard himself said he was confident going into the weekend ahead having conducted various tests over the winter, adding that he was confident that the latest-spec Lacetti would enable him to impress.

“I cannot wait to get the season started!” he said. “The Brands Indy circuit is a great little track and it feels as if you are constantly turning a corner as you never seem to have the steering wheel pointed straight. I've got mixed emotions about my previous experiences at Brands, as I had a race win and fastest lap here in 2007, but a big crash in 2005. For this year, the Chevrolet's got great potential and if we get it dialled-in to the track we should be set for good results.”
