Bartrum chasing next level for Airwaves

Airwaves BMW team boss David Bartrum says he is confident that his team will show it has moved to the 'next level' during the opening rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season this weekend at Brands Hatch.

The Motorbase-run team enjoyed a stunning finish to the 2008 campaign at the Kent circuit where it secured no fewer than five trophies from the final weekend of the year, and heads back to its home circuit buoyed by the impressive performance of both Rob Collard and newcomer Jonathan Adam during the recent BTCC group test.

That test saw Adam post the second quickest time with Collard close behind in third and Bartrum said he was confident that that performance will be carried into the opening rounds of the year.

“The whole Airwaves BMW team is really looking forward to the action starting,” he said. “Our pre-season preparations have gone very well and we're much further ahead in terms of readiness than we were at the same point last year. That makes me confident we can start the new season strongly and show we've progressed to the next level in terms of our development as a team.

“Jonny, Rob and our engineers all did some excellent work in testing, and if we can translate that speed into good times in qualifying then we will have made a major step forward from last year. I'd be happy with a repeat of our last competitive outing at Brands and take a podium finish in every race, but if we could secure a win in front of the fans at our local track that would be a fantastic way to start the 2009 season.”
