Matt Neal says he feels that most of the grid has yet to show its hand ahead of the new HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship season.
Neal heads into his second season with the VX Racing team looking to improve on his single win last season, with his main aim being to try and take the title back from team-mate Fabrizio Giovanardi.
Double title-winner Neal has seen the Italian win the crown for the past two seasons and while he admits that his team-mate is likely to be his biggest competition this season, he said he felt there were others on the grid who haven't yet shown what they are capable of.
“It's going to be close, but I don't think some of our competitors have shown their full hand yet,” he said. “It could be a bit of a scrap at the sharp end and Fabrizio is certainly my biggest competition. The Indy circuit at Brands is great for the crowd and for us drivers, with its stadium-like atmosphere, so it should be a good weekend.”
For the new campaign, Neal and Giovanardi will be joined in the factory Vauxhall line-up by rising star Andew Jordan, and the teenager said he was aiming for the podium on his first weekend with the team.
“It will be my first race weekend with VX Racing and although we've been out testing and I've raced in BTCC before, I'm sure there will be more for me to learn about the way the team operates,” he said. “I'm keen to get back out racing as it's been a long winter off and with a great car, a first-class crew and the best engineers in the paddock, I'm all set to go out to win.”
