Collard leads second Brands practice

Rob Collard posted the quickest time of the day so far as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship runners hit the track for the second free practice session of the weekend at Brands Hatch.

The Airwaves BMW driver, on the home circuit for the Motorbase Performance-run team, posted a quickest time of 48.941secs during the session which allowed him to edge out the Vectra of Matt Neal, with the VX Racing man second for the second session in a row.

Andy Jordan was also on the pace for the lone factory team in the series this season and was within a tenth of a second of Collard in third place, with Gordon Shedden leading the Team Dynamics challenge in fourth. Defending champion Fabrizio Giovanardi and Jonathan Adam completed the top six.

Further down the top ten, Stephen Jelley was seventh ahead of FP1 pace-setter Colin Turkington, with Jason Plato and Harry Vaulkhard rounding out the top ten.

A notable performance came from John George, was twelfth in his TH Motorsport with JAG Honda Integra and within a second of the quickest time, while the session saw Team Aon pairing Tom Chilton and Alan Morrison down in 16th and 17th place with the Ford Focus ST lacking straightline speed as it continues its development programme.

Liam McMillan was the only driver to run into problems, with an engine issue on his Maxtreme SEAT Toledo leaving him parked in the garage after just six laps with the 19th quickest time.
