Tempus Sport will hope to avoid a repeat of the accident that befell its testing programme at Thruxton as the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to the Hampshire circuit for the second round of the year.

Harry Vaulkhard saw his pre-season test at the quickest circuit on the calendar end early when he went off into the Armco and damaged his Chevrolet Lacetti.

Having put that firmly behind him, the 23-year-old picked up two top ten finishes at Brands Hatch during the opening rounds of the year to overhaul his points tally for the entire 2008 campaign and the Geordie said he was excited to try and add to his haul at a venue he admits - testing accidents aside - is one of his favourites.

"Thruxton is one of my favourite circuits, and apart from testing earlier this year, I've had some very good experiences there," he said. "Perhaps most notably I won the 2007 British Seat Cupra R championship at Thruxton in the final round of the season, and it was on my birthday! It was also the first place I led a race.

"There's some fantastically fast corners round the back of the track, some technical areas at the start and end of the lap, all coupled with a venue that seems quite old-fashioned in many respects. All in all, Thruxton is one of my preferred hunting grounds and I'm excited to see what we can do there with Tempus."

Team director Richard Coleman added that plenty of work has been going on behind the scenes following the Brands Hatch opener and that he too was confident of a strong weekend.

"Our debut at Brands Hatch seems like an age ago and we've had a lot of debriefs and done a lot of work to go forward for this weekend at Thruxton," he said. "Harry scored more points at Brands than he did all season in 2008, and we're confident we can build on that tally. Of course, we did briefly test at the track back in February, but unfortunately it was only for a handful of laps. Nevertheless, we've seen the pace and potential of the car so lets hope for some good racing."
