Stephen Jelley posted the quickest time for the second successive free practice session ahead of his home round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park.
The Team RAC man went quicker than he had done during the morning to post a quickest time of 1min 13.402secs at the wheel of his BMW 320si, but there was something of a surprise behind at Harry Vaulkhard went second quickest for Tempus Sport. The former SEAT Cupra racer made large strides from the morning session and was just 0.003secs away from matching Jelley's time.
While the top two on the times are only in their second season of BTCC competition, the four drivers behind lack no experience, with James Thompson, Jason Plato, Fabrizio Giovanardi and Matt Neal – who hold seven BTCC titles between them – rounding out the top six.
Johnny Adam, Colin Turkington, Andrew Jordan and Rob Collard rounded out the top ten, just ahead of Paul O'Neil who managed just three flying laps in his sunshine.co.uk Honda after the Tech-Speed run outfit was left to carry out repairs frollowing his off in the first session.
Tom Chilton and Alan Morrison were both inside the top 15 for Team Aon as the Focus ST continued to show improved pace, but Mat Jackson was again off the pace in 16th.
Neither Dan Eaves nor Nick Leason set a time due to mechanical issues.
