Harry Vaulkhard enjoyed his best weekend to date in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park after taking his Tempus Sport Chevrolet to three top ten finishes in Leicestershire.

Vaulkhard qualified on the front row of the grid for the first time after posting the second quickest time in qualifying and although he lost positions during the opening race, he was still able to secure his best ever BTCC result with fifth place.

Vaulkhard's hopes of matching that result in race two were hit by an incident ahead involving Rob Collard in the opening stages which saw him forced to take to the grass exiting the Old Hairpin and drop down to 18th. However, a battling drive through the field saw the Chevrolet cross the line in tenth place to earn pole for race three.

The second year driver ran in a podium position for much of the final race before an incident with Fabrizio Giovanardi - where Vaulkhard tipped the champion into a spin exiting McLeans - saw him lose time and positions and slip back to fifth. Before the finish, he also lost position to a recovering Giovanardi and double race winner James Thompson although he could still console himself with three solid results on arguably the most challenging race day of the year to date.

"I'm very happy about this weekend's performance," Vaulkhard admitted. "The team worked brilliantly and the car was fantastic. There was a lot of action on track but I gave as good as I got, as you can't back down in these situations. It was great to be racing at the front and I think we showed we can mix it with the big boys. I am disappointed that we didn't get a podium but if we can keep this pace I don't think we'll have to wait long before we get one."

Team boss Richard Coleman was also happy with the result and admitted he was pleased to see podium pace from his driver on race day.

"Our pace certainly came together this weekend and we have been racing right at the front," he said. "Harry has done a superb job and so have the team. We had a good set-up for the car in both wet and dry conditions and we were certainly in the thick of the action. This weekend has been a very strong display and we definitely had podium finishes on the cards."
