Harry Vaulkhard has beaten off the challenge of race winners James Thompson and Rob Collard to secure the HiQ Champagne Moment award for the British Touring Car Championship meeting at Donington Park.
The Tempus Sport driver secured 40 per cent of the votes lodged by BTCC fans following his strong performance at Donington, where he not only secured his best qualifying position in second but also took his best BTCC finish in fifth in race one.
It gave Vaulkhard the most votes ahead of race three winner Collard – who picked up 36 per cent – and double winner Thompson who secured 21 per cent.
“It is exciting times for me and the team,” Vaulkhard said. “Everyone is working extremely hard and this HiQ champagne moment award is am lovely reminder of the results we achieved at Donington.
“We want to do better at Oulton and we hope that the bottle of bubbly will be a good omen for me and the team. I went well there last year in an older car so this season with a much better car and team I should be in the perfect position to translate that into some good results. We were so close to getting a podium at Donington and that makes me all the more hungry to get my first BTCC podium at Oulton.”
Vaulkhard will be presented with his bottle of champagne by fan Kerry Earl, who was chosen at random to present the prize.
“I voted for Harry because to put his car second on the grid and hold his own throughout all three races was an impressive achievement,” she said. “When you consider how well he performed when battling with Jason Plato and Mat Jackson, you realise what a great effort it was.”
