Aon frustrated despite double score

Team Aon secured a double points finish at Oulton Park although the Ford outfit remained frustrated by the latest rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Alan Morrison secured a brace of top ten finishes, although both he and team-mate Tom Chilton admitted they were being limited by continuing issues with the performance of the engine in the Focus ST.

Indeed, both drivers said they were pleased with the handling of the car but the outright speed of the Focus continues to hold them back.

“Frustration is definitely how I would sum up the Oulton Park races,” Chilton, who took a best finish of twelfth, said. “We've made big steps forward with the handling and I would say that this Ford Focus is the best Touring Car I have ever driven in terms of the braking performance and the traction. The team has done a fantastic job there.

“In the races I could out-brake people easily and was as quick as anyone through the corners, but then I get on the straights and I might as well put my indicator on and wave them all back past again.”

Morrison, who took tenth place in race two and race three, agreed that the team still isn't getting the most out of the car and said that when the issues with the engine are resolved, the Focus can be a front-running challenger.

“This is a case of not being able to fully exploit the car's potential,” he said. “I know that with more straight-line speed that we can compete with any car on the grid. I've followed all the other makes this weekend and know we're stronger than them in a lot of areas. Yes it's difficult, but I have faith in the team's ability and resources to get this problem resolved.”
