Jason Plato posted the quickest time so far this weekend at Croft to lead the way in the second HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship free practice session.

The Racing Silverline driver posted a quickest time of 1min 26.027secs at the wheel of his Chevrolet Lacetti to outpace Team RAC pairing Colin Turkington and Stephen Jelley – who settled into second and third as temperatures increased.

Showing the potential of the Chevrolet Lacetti package, James Nash was fourth quickest for RML ahead of his second BTCC outing, while Mat Jackson slotted into fifth place. FP1 pace setter James Thompson rounded out the top six.

Andrew Jordan led the VX Racing challenge in seventh, although Fabrizio Giovanardi could only manage twelfth and Matt Neal was down in 17th after damaging his splitter and radiator after a collision with a tyre stack.

Paul O'Neill, Jonathan Adam and Dan Eaves also posted top ten times during the session.
