Jackson withdraws from Croft race day

Mat Jackson has been forced to withdraw from the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting at Croft due to the ill-effects of a bout of food poisoning.

Jackson had battled to fifth on the grid for the fifth round of the season and was administered a drip by the BTCC medical team on Sunday morning prior to the opening race of the day.

The Racing Silverline man was running in fourth place when he suffered a spin into the barriers, and while the RML-run outfit could repair the damage, Jackson took the decision to withdraw due the effects of his illness.

“It's an awful feeling not to be able to take part, but I'm just not well enough to race,” he said. “I'm sure that both my sponsors and my fans will understand, and I think they'd rather I rested up than go out on track when I'm ill and unable to perform at my best.”
