Bell forced out of Snetterton weekend

29 July 2009

Martyn Bell will be forced to miss the latest round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton this weekend after picking up a knee injury during the summer break.

The Team sunshine.co.uk with Tech-Speed driver sustained the injury during a family holiday in Turkey, and will be unable to compete in the sixth round of the year as a result.

Having admitted his disappointment at being forced to miss his first race weekend since joining the BTCC at the start of 2006, Bell will now work closely with his physiotherapist with a view to returning to the grid for the following round of the season at Knockhill.

“I've been carrying a back injury since my accident at Snetterton last season which I'd just sorted out and I was training hard to make sure I was in the best shape possible for the second half of the season,” he said. “Unfortunately, I had a fall while on holiday with the family in Turkey and have damaged the ligament in my left knee. It's an injury I have had in the past, and there is no chance of me being fit enough to drive the Honda this weekend.

“It's a real shame because I was looking forward to getting back in the car and was confident that we could show the kind of form we had back at Brands Hatch. I'm lucky to be dealing with one of the best consultants in the country to get the injury fixed as soon as possible and I fully intend to make the trip to Scotland for the following round at Knockhill.”

Bell's injury means Paul O'Neill will run in the lone sunshine.co.uk car for the weekend.
